  WHAT: a showcase of student and faculty projects along with exciting panel discussions and free hands-on workshops

     
  WHEN: Saturday, October 30, 2010 from 9:30am–4:30pm
     
  WHY: to explore the ways in which digital tools, technologies, and spaces are transforming scholarship and work in the humanities
     
  WHO: everyone interested in new media, digital media, social media, Web 2.0, transmedia, and more
     
  WHERE: the Michigan State University Auditorium, Fairchild Theatre

Morning Session

The morning session will consist of presentations given in the Fairchild Theater by students and faculty involved in a variety of Digital Humanities projects.

We will start the morning with a Keynote Address given by Dr. Dànielle DeVoss, Professor of Writing, Rhetoric and American Cultures titled “Digital Is…” and move into short presentations by our featured speakers. Presentations during the morning session include:

  • Digital Comics
  • Digital Writing and Composition
  • Student-produced Animated Films
  • Human–Computer Interaction
  • Documentary Filmmaking
  • Digital Textbooks
  • Digital Effects for Theatre Productions

Afternoon Session

The afternoon session will be given in a hands-on, discussion-and-creation focused, workshop-style format. Workshops 1 will be offered, then participants will have a 15-minute break, and then Workshops 2 will be offered. Workshops for the afternoon include:

  • Digital Video Creation
  • Creating Digital Comics
  • Rich Internet Applications for Language Learning
  • Social Media
  • Web Usability
  • Online Teaching and Learning
  • Copyright and Fair Use
  • Interaction Design

The afternoon sessions will end with a chance to come back together as a large group in the Fairchild to review the day and think about the future.
