Morning Session
The morning session will consist of presentations given in the Fairchild Theater by students and faculty involved in a variety of Digital Humanities projects. We will start the morning with a Keynote Address given by Dr. Dànielle DeVoss, Professor of Writing, Rhetoric and American Cultures titled “Digital Is…” and move into short presentations by our featured speakers.
Presentations during the morning session include:
Fiona Smith, "The Presence of Comics on the Web"
This presentation will address how the web presence of comics affects audience
and distribution by looking at how established and new comics artists distribute
and promote their work via the web.
Hannah Ettema, "Like Lewis and Clark…" … Ettema kept a travel journal when abroad in New Zealand. Unlike those
explorers, hers was digital and open to any and all who wanted to read—and
contribute. This presentation will address the process of producing and sharing
multimedia travel writing via blog.
Noah Blon and Ben Froese, Reconstructing Robert
In 2009, a group of MSU and community members created a documentary about
the late Robert Busby, a beloved Lansing community leader. This presentation
will feature two of the filmmakers and include clips from the documentary.
George Maxin and Zac Campbell, Real World Connections: BringingProfessionals to You
This presentation showcases Real World Connection videos, which provide
perspectives from professional designers and directors—viewpoints and styles
that help learners see that there is no one way to do something right, rather a
multiplicity of interesting methods.
The Wally Movie MSU students collaborated on a project with an area teacher and students to
produce an award-winning movie. An excerpt from the film will be shown.
Joseba Gabilondo, "Beyond the Textbook: Creating a Digital Textbook" Drawing from a survey course on Spanish literature, this presentation will share
pedagogical possibilities to enhance classroom teaching and collaboration
through the use of a digital textbook.
Alison Dobbins, "Digital Design in Theatre" Designers from "Evil Dead: The Musical" will demonstrate how digital technology
was incorporated into the design and production of the musical.
Ryan Claytor, "Frankencomics: A Digital Approach to Creating Visual Narrative" This presentation features an overview of the presenter's work in comics and will
walk the audience through a creative and production process that blends digital
tools and techniques.
